2nd Minister Strategy Group Formed

December marked the kickoff of the 2nd Minister Strategy Group. The group had an excellent first meeting and will be meeting monthly at the church to move forward with the exciting initiative!

The group members are:

Anne Mahoney, Charlie Lyon, Christine Arthur, Dan Moen, Gene Drumm, Jan Ormes, Jeff Brothers, Lenny Oblosky, and Rhonda Williamson.

Staff members are Kirk Loadman-Copeland and Spud Van de Water

The goals of the group are to...

1. Determine the portfolio/job set of the incoming 2nd Minister through Appreciative Inquiry interviews.

2. Speak with/research other large UU churches who have conducted similar contract-to-call approaches for 2nd Ministers.

3. Meet with MDD representatives to discuss process and gain additional perspective on hiring a 2nd Minister.

4. Raise the congregations awareness of budget needs to hire 2nd Minister.

5. Coordinate with MDD/UUA to launch national search.

As to the 1st goal, if you are interested in participating in the Appreciative Inquiry process please contact Charlie Lyon or Spud Van de Water.

As to the 4th goal, we need to step up as a congregation and fund this initiative which was one of the top priorities to come out of our Appreciative Inquiry Dream Summit last spring.

Timeline:

Spring 2010- Identify portfolio/job set through AI interview process

July 2010- Hire Interim Minister who will perform portfolio/job set of 2nd Minister.

Sept/Oct. 2010- Begin National search for 2nd Minister for 1st Universalist

May 2011- Interview candidates and make hiring decision

August 2011- 2nd Minister begins at 1st U!

Funding the 2nd Minister position- we likely can fund about ½ of the interim minister salary from existing staff roles.
