Since 1997 Volunteers for Hospitalized Veterans has served veterans of the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center and the Denver area to provide for their financial needs and well being. About 40% of our donations support the Veteran Administration's local homeless and at risk veterans and their families. Volunteers for Hospitalized Veterans is a unique organization that gives 100% of net earnings and donations to veterans. All fundraising is done by volunteers and we don't pay typical administrative business expenses or salaries. Directors include members of various VAVS Committee organizations, including Sons of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, the Marine Corps League, and the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.

Disagreements abound when it comes to telling the story of the United States of America. Shall we romanticize its memory, or excavate its terrible truths? Often, a similar struggle exists within our own families—and within the quiet chapters of our own lives.

 

Your past doesn’t have to be perfect to be useful. We cannot alter where we have been, nor can we undo the history that shaped us. We redeem those flawed beginnings not by hiding them, but by courageously learning from them. True transformation is the choice to extract wisdom from the past, so we can choose a different path forward.

Rev. Angela Henderson, M.Div., is a Unitarian Universalist minister, chaplain, and advocate. She currently serves as hospice chaplain for Choice Hospice in the Denver Metro, a board member of Bridges UU, and grateful member of First Universalist Church of Denver.
